Town Hall Theater's executive director appears on stage before shows to welcome the crowd, but he rarely gets a chance to stand on the stage as a performer. That will happen this month, as Douglas Anderson performs "Songs You Don't Know" as part of the THT Cabaret Series on Thursday, March 10.

Anderson's show made its debut last year, and was an immediate success. During his years in the theater he has collected obscure songs that for some reason never made it onto the hit parade. Anderson plays the piano, sings, and with the help of two "ringers" introduces these songs in a delightful cabaret setting.

The ringers are Cathy Walsh, who has starred in Middlebury Community Players and Lyric Theater Productions, and Debra Anderson, who generally designs costumes for the theater but gets the chance here to show off her lovely soprano singing voice.

"After last year's success, which sort of surprised me, it made sense to bring the show back one more time" says Anderson. "We haven't changed it all. It's just one amazing song after another."
The THT Cabaret, now in its second year, is something different in the THT line-up. For this series the Byers Studio on THT's lower level is transformed into a 60-seat club, with bistro tables and a cash bar. "The room has a great, welcoming vibe, and performers love the closeness of the audience" says Anderson. THT hopes that people will come downtown, have dinner at one of Middlebury's great restaurants and then head to THT for a musical nightcap.

Douglas Anderson: Songs You Don't Know will play one night only, Thursday, March 10, at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm) or at the door, if available.

Next in the series, Sarah Stone, who has starred in several area productions, pairs with pianist Fred Barnes for an evening of songs from Broadway and the American Songbook. Tickets are on sale for the Thursday, April 21, performance.
