Allentown's Lisa Bodnar to Appear at Bob Egan's, 8/26

By:

Singer-songwriter Lisa Bodnar comes to New Hope at Bob Egan's, Friday, August 26. Show time is at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $15.00.

In New Hope, Bodnar, on piano, will be playing a soul baring, stripped-down version of her popular live show. She will be accompanied by guitar, bass and drums.

"Lisa Bodnar is a composing keyboardist with a strikingly yearning voice, a very versatile band, and an ambitious mission," writes Geoff Gehman of The Morning Call.

Now living in Jersey City, Bodnar hails from Allentown, PA. We first heard her tender voice shortly before the 2003 release of her debut CD, "Maybe I Did," a collection of her songs that was produced and recorded by guitarist/engineer Brett Kull. She began getting radio airplay in Philadelphia, on WXPN, soon followed by exposure through Triple A, college radio and new music shows around the globe. Lisa and her band have been performing live on radio shows, at music festivals, and in concert houses since 2002.

Her second CD, "Come Hell or High Water", recorded at Kampo Studios in New York, is the result of a collaborative effort by Bodnar, Dann Araque, and multi-platinum engineer Dan Grigsby, whose credits include work with Keith Richards and Joe Cocker. The CD also features a slew of other talent, including Kenny Margolis and Frank Funaro-keyboardist and drummer, respectively, from the band Cracker-and members of Conan O'Brian's horn section: Mark Pender, and Richie Rosenberg with Eddie Manion, as well as Shawn Pelton, the drummer for Saturday Night Live.

"What separates Bodnar," Mark Uricheck writes in his review for NEPA today.com, "[is] the stunning simplicity and accessibility of her songs. A complete lack of pretense in Lisa's music invites the listener to share in the universal emotions of her lyrics." Kyrby Raine, of Shotgun Reviews, writes, "Bodnar writes unpretentious pop songs with roots-rock, folk, and country seasonings." "Trying to describe her music is not easy, because it evokes a list of seemingly contradictory words: pure, funky, haunting, innocent, ironic, joyous, longing, strong, childlike, sexual, spiritual, aching, ethereal, gritty, fragile, hopeful, wise, raw, triumphant (but never mean-spirited or cruel)," observes writer Corinna Fales.

Bob Egan's Cabaret Supper Club is located at the Ramada of New Hope, 6426 Lower York Road (Route 202) in New Hope, PA. Tickets for Lisa Bodnar are $15 and a $15 food or drink minimum. Food is served starting at 6:30 pm · Tickets and are available online at www.bobegans.com, Call: 215-862-5225 (The Ramada) or 215-794-7716 (Bob Egan Entertainment) for more information.
