Northern Ballet brings The Little Mermaid to Canterbury on its world premiere tour next month.

This new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale tells of a young mermaid who is willing to give up everything she knows in the search for love. It is choreographed and directed by Northern Ballet's Artistic Director David Nixon OBE (whose most recent creations for the company include Cinderella, The Great Gatsby and Beauty And The Beast), and features an original score by Sally Beamish, played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

David said: "The Little Mermaid is an enchanting story and the fantastical underwater world of the mermaids evokes such beautiful imagery that it will be an excellent addition to our repertoire. So many people have grown up with this classic tale and so I am looking forward to reintroducing audiences to the world beyond the waves.'

Northern Ballet's The Little Mermaid is at The Marlowe Theatre from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 November, with performances at 7.30pm and 2.30pm (Thursday and Saturday). Tickets, which cost from £19.25 to £41.25 (concessions available), are from the Box Office on 01227 787787, or marlowetheatre.com.
