New English Ballet Theatre to Present INTO THE SPOTLIGHT | GENESIS DANCE PROJECT at Crescent Theatre Birmingham
The event will feature the work of Ruth Brill, Daniela Cardim, Wayne Eagling, Kristen McNally, Morgann Runacre-Temple and Valentino Zucchetti.
New English Ballet Theatre recently performed to capacity audiences at the Royal Opera House/Linbury Theatre before embarking on a series of summer festival dates during July. On August 3rd and 4th the company will make a welcome return to the CRESCENT THEATRE BIRMINGHAM with a thrilling new work featuring the music of GENESIS.
'Into the Spotlight - Genesis Dance Project' features the work of six choreographers:
Ruth Brill, Daniela Cardim, Wayne Eagling, Kristen McNally,
Morgann Runacre-Temple and Valentino Zucchetti
First half of the programme is called Into the Spotlight and features 3 exciting new dance pieces:
1. Domino is by Ruth Brill in which the characters artfully interact in exploring the search for compatibility in a game of human dominoes:
"Ruth Brill's Domino opens the evening, its chic tunics in Mondrian patterns and sharp Ryuichi Sakamoto score imparting a stylish modernist ambience..." (Guardian)
2. Former dancer and NEBT Assistant Director Daniela Cardim's elegantly performed duet to her favourite Chopin composition, Nocturne No 13, is an intimate study of a couple's relationship whilst experiencing grief, "Nocturne by Daniela Cardim is a beautiful, intense and very intimate pas de deux, and a highlight of the evening." (Seeing Dance)
3. Rosamunde, by Morgann Runacre-Temple is a hypnotic company piece performed to Schubert's Rosamunde String Quartet with new sections of music by composer and sound designer, Tom Lane. Says Runacre-Temple: "I was inspired by a painting by the American artist Dorothea Tanning in which bodies are intertwined; I took that image as a starting point to work with the idea of concealing and revealing bodies onstage and the sensuality of touch."
The second half of the programme is called Genesis Dance Project: four exciting new dance pieces choreographed to the music of Genesis. Imaginative costumes, spectacular imagery and a soundtrack spanning Genesis' early 1970s days as prog-rockers to their 1990s era as chart toppers.
1. Watcher of the Skies is by Wayne Eagling whose most recent work for NEBT, 'Remembrance', was a critically acclaimed stage show and film.
2. Firth of Fifth is by Royal Ballet First Soloist Valentino Zucchetti.
3. The Cinema Show is by Ruth Brill
4. I Can't Dance is by the Royal Ballet's Principal Character Artist, Kristen McNally.
"a charming, very chilled out piece to the music of Genesis with gorgeous 1960s costume designs..." (Dance For You)
