Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced casting for the North American premiere of Genus choreographed by Wayne McGregor. Genus is presented with Tarantella & Self and Soul & The Concert and concludes the company's Winter Season March 29 - April 2 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

Mr. McGregor is Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet and Genus is his second ballet to be added to the National Ballet's repertoire, the first being his widely-acclaimed Chroma. Genus is inspired by Darwin's On the Origin of Species and set to a score by Joby Talbot and Deru. Choreographed for 24 dancers, Genus features the intricate and rigorously conceived dance vocabulary that is the hallmark of Mr. McGregor's work. #GenusNBC

Making its company premiere this season is George Balanchine's Tarantella, a pas de deux featuring music of the same name by New Orleans-born composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk. #TarantellaNBC

The programme continues with Choreographic Associate Robert Binet's Self and Soul, created for The Twelfth International Competition for The Erik Bruhn Prize. It was recently announced that Mr. Binet will be mentored by Ms. Kain for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) Mentorship Program in 2017. From 2012 to 2103, Mr. Binet was Choreographic Apprentice for The Royal Ballet where he was mentored by Mr. McGregor. #SelfandSoulNBC

Concluding the programme will be Jerome Robbins' 1956 comic ballet The Concert (Or, The Perils of Everybody). #TheConcertNBC
