REDCAT Will Present GRAMMY-Winning PARTCH Ensemble in Los Angeles

]The Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater will present the GRAMMY Award-winning PARTCH Ensemble on June 26 and 27, 2026.

The performances will feature newly constructed replicas of instruments designed by experimental American composer Harry Partch, whose work and custom-built microtonal instruments form the core of the ensemble’s repertory.

The program will include excerpts from Partch’s On the Seventh Day Petals Fell in Petaluma alongside the “Prologue” and “Epilogue” from The Bewitched. Additional works will include a new solo setting inspired by Chinese poet Li Po and the world premiere of Daniel Corral’s Parable of the Bitter.

The performances will also mark the debut of several recreated Partch instruments with the ensemble, including the Crychord, Chromelodeon II, Zymo-Xyl, and Gubagubi.

Following each performance, audiences will be invited onstage for an instrument “petting zoo,” allowing attendees to interact directly with the instruments used in the concert.

About PARTCH Ensemble

Founded to preserve and expand the musical world created by Harry Partch, PARTCH Ensemble performs works for the composer’s original microtonal instrumentarium while also commissioning new compositions for the instruments by contemporary artists.

The ensemble has previously appeared at venues and festivals including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Center, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

The ensemble first appeared at REDCAT in 2004 with the premiere of Partch’s Bitter Music and has returned annually since then.

Performances will take place at 8 p.m. both evenings. Tickets are priced at $25 for general admission, $20 for REDCAT members and students, and $13 for CalArts students, faculty, and staff.
