LA Philharmonic Accompanies Screening of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY at The Hollywood Bowl Tonight
A Live Presentation of 2001: A Space Odyssey at the Hollywood Bowl tonight, August 18, at 8:00 PM features Stanley Kubrick's classic film shown in its entirety on the Bowl's big screen with orchestral accompaniment by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Led by conductor Brad Lubman, the orchestra performs the iconic soundtrack of classical compositions including works by Richard Strauss (Also sprach Zarathustra), György Ligeti, and Johann Strauss, Jr. (the "Blue Danube" Waltz).
Recognized as one of the greatest works of science fiction cinema, Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is acclaimed for its technological realism, creative audacity and inspired use of music. Almost 50 years after its release, Kubrick's clever, meaningful, classical playlist - which spans from 1866 to 1966 - is a critical ingredient in what made the movie a classic. By fusing unfamiliar and extraterrestrial images with familiar music the director capitalized on the audience's memory and pre-existing emotions and propelled the Academy Award-winning film to become a universally acknowledged masterpiece of visual, and musical, storytelling.
Presented in association with Warner Bros., Southbank Centre London and the British Film Institute.
Featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Brad Lubman, conductor, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Grant Gershon, artistic director, the film will screen with accompaniment on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 8:00 PM at The Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90068. Tickets for performances during the Hollywood Bowl 2015 summer season are available now at HollywoodBowl.com or via credit card phone order at 323.850.2000.
