Single concert tickets are now on sale for the upcoming Canton Symphony Orchestra season. The jam-packed season promises to be fun, exciting and surprising once again, with concerts that feature a Brooklyn-based viral video sensation, a banjo player, a multi-media show of NASA photographs of the planet rovers / satellites, an all-Scottish concert, and the return of world-renown pianist André Watts.

The orchestra's 76th season will continue its Pops series, featuring PROJECT Trio, the always popular Holiday Pops, and local saxophonist Matt Corey with Elec Simon. The Pops series is held at the newly renovated Palace Theatre, except for the Holiday Pops that is performed at Umstattd Hall (at McKinley High School next to C.T. Branin Natatorium).

Michelle Mullaly, Executive Director of Canton Symphony, announced the classical series' season will open October 6 with guest violinist William Preucil, the Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra. The featured piece will be Scottish Fantasy by Bruch along with two other "Scottish" themed pieces by Mendelssohn and Benjamin.

Then on October 19, PROJECT Trio will appear at the Palace Theatre with members of the orchestra. This Brooklyn-based trio burst onto the music scene with their landmark videos. The fall Pops concert last year (Speedbumps, a Kent-based acoustic band) received rave reviews for the packed house. This year's group promises another fantastic performance.

"We really have a world-class orchestra - really an amazing gift for small town America," noted Mr. Adrian Allison, Superintendent of The Canton City School District. With musicians from across the globe, many who study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Canton Symphony Orchestra boasts one of the best small town orchestras in the country.

"Many of our musicians end up playing in The Cleveland Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony, and other well-known orchestras around the country. Our previous concertmaster is now concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. It's really a gift the generations before us established that makes incredibly professional and talented music available to the fine people right here in Canton," commented Mullaly.

The orchestra remains under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, who begins his 33rd year. Mullaly credits Zimmermann for maintaining and improving the quality of musicianship and entertainment: "We are so fortunate to have a conductor who can bring world-class talent and performance to Canton."

Tickets start at a very affordable $18 for Pops and $25 for Masterworks concerts. There are senior, student and group discounts available. Dress is casual and open to all ages. Tickets and the full concert season schedule are available online atwww.CantonSymphony.org, by calling 330-452-2094, or by walk-up at individual concerts. Some concerts do sell out in advance.
