BSO Announces O, SAY CAN YOU SING Competition Winners

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has announced the winners of its seventh annual "O, Say Can You Sing?" competition held Monday, May 12: Matthew Moore, 16, and Dijè Coxson, 16, both from Baltimore, Md. The teens competed against more than 50 other local vocalists to win the chance to sing the National Anthem at the BSO's Star-Spangled Spectacular concerts on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md. (Baltimore County). See below for complete program details.

Matthew Moore, a 16 year-old baritone from Baltimore, is a sophomore at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Matthew is an active member of the Life Music Christian Fellowship under Pastor Timothy Moore, and has studied for 10 years as a jazz drummer at Peabody Preparatory.

Dijè Coxson, 16, is a junior at the Baltimore School for the Arts. A native of Baltimore, she has trained with the Washington National Opera Summer Camp, the Nathan Carter School of Music at New Shiloh Baptist Church and the Lyric's Summer Opera Camp.

For more than 20 years, the BSO's Star-Spangled Spectacular at Oregon Ridge Park has been a Baltimore?area summer tradition, drawing tens of thousands for family fun, music, food and fireworks. Patrons are invited to arrive early with lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners. For the first time ever, attendees will be able to purchase local fare from The Gathering, Baltimore-based food trucks. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m.

Join the BSO for an all-American holiday celebration featuring Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever and more, choreographed to an amazing fireworks display! Plus hear the BSO's "O, Say Can You Sing?" contest winner(s) perform the National Anthem. Arrive starting at 5 p.m. for fun activities for the kids and delicious eats from Baltimore-based food trucks supplied by The Gathering.

Tickets are general admission lawn seating and are available through the BSO Ticket Office, BSOmusic.org or 410.783.8000 or at the park gate. Advanced tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children under 12. If purchased at the gate, tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

Free parking is available at the Verizon lot on Shawan Road with shuttle to the park. Permits for onsite parking can be purchased for $12 in advance from the BSO Ticket Office or for $15 at the gate.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. and local vendors will be onsite with food and beverages available for purchase. Concertgoers are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for a full evening of entertainment with the BSO.
