Peter Badmajew's THE HISTORY OF A WARSAW INSURGENT Explores WWII Poland

In August 1944, a one half of Polish territory was already liberated by the Soviet Army. At the end of July 1944 Soviet tanks were at the eastern suburbs of Warsaw. In his new book, "The History of a Warsaw Insurgent" (published by iUniverse), author and survivor Peter Badmajew offers readers a firsthand look at this amazing wartime event.

For Badmajew, all seemed well until September 1, 1939, when the Germans invaded Poland. Badmajew's world would never be the same again: he extinguished incinerated bombs, dug antiaircraft ditches and delivered water and food to soldiers. Badmajew describes how he and his family survived the German occupation, with one member of the family arrested by the Gestapo. Determined to fight for the freedom of his country, in 1944 Badmajew, at age 15, joined the Warsaw Uprising. Suddenly, the boy who once happily spent his vacation swimming in Pucka Bay was carrying grenades in his pockets and swigging liquid courage from a vodka bottle.

About the Author
Peter Badmajew was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1929, to a Polish noblewoman and a father who fled from Russia to Poland after the Bolshevik Revolution to practice Tibetan medicine. Following a successful career as a physician, Badmajew retired and is now living in New York.
