Book Takes Readers to an Epic Journey of Survival Darlene Weir lives with her family in an earthquake zone and they know that one day, “the big one” will happen. As she wondered what would be the outcome and consequences of this catastrophic event, the story of “Cascadia: An Epic Journey of Survival” (published by Xlibris in November 2017) began to unfold.

Set in British Columbia, Canada, “Cascadia” is a fictional account of a serious earthquake, which is predicted at some point in the future. The Wallis family find themselves literally thrown into danger when the quake occurs and three generations take to the sea in an open boat, hoping to find refuge in their seagoing vessel, Sea Lure. The tale is told by Angie, a 13-year-old girl, who draws readers in and holds their interest throughout the pages. It is clear from the prelude that the Wallis family will make it to Sea Lure — but that is only the beginning of their struggles.

“In today's society, we have a lot of fear of the unkown. I hope this novel gives readers an idea of how they can overcome their worst fears and move into the unknown with courage, love and determination,” the author says, adding that, “(the book) not only gives readers an exciting adventure but, I believe, it has an underlining gift of seeing themselves overcoming the many obstacles that this family encounters. It would be an enjoyable read for all members of a family.”

Weir's depictions of the coastal British Columbia backdrop, along with her astute understanding of human nature, create the underpinning for this action-packed adventure. To purchase a copy of the book, visit https://www.amazon.com/Cascadia-Journey-Survival-Darlene-Weir/dp/1543467636.
