Infidelity, escapism and crime thrust the characters of Alan White's new book "Savannah and the Soldier" (published by Trafford Publishing) into a whirlwind of dramatic fervor.

The story evolves from a simple encounter between main characters Savannah Hunt - a married woman - and Ian Moncrieff - a married man - into a tumult of vengeful jealousy, romantic exploration and violent consequence.

As their lives converge, Ian and Savannah pay the price of their infidelities - Savannah surviving a crippling attack by her husband, and Ian admitting his love affair to his wife.

Further tangling the web, Savannah's husband, Charles, becomes involved in a paranoid search for an Iraqi smuggler, whom Charles wronged while serving a military tour in Afghanistan. The smuggler ultimately causes damage behind the scenes when a drug deal with another character goes sour.

"The book traces the development of an increasingly strong bond between a young woman and an older man and the effect that this has on their marriages," White says. "Concurrently, it gives the flavor of expatriate life in Cyprus - idyllic for some, but harmful for others."
