By:

Brooklyn Music School (BMS) presents Alida and the Hummingbird on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 4-5 p.m. at the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse Theater, 126 Saint Felix Street, Brooklyn, NY. Tickets are $10-20. For more information, visit www.brooklynmusicschool.org/calendar/alida-hummingbird.

"I see your face in every flower, your eyes in stars above."

Based on a Puerto Rican myth The Legend of the Hummingbird, this original production produced by the Musical Theater and Performance Program at BMS celebrates the rich indigenous and Latin cultural heritage of America. Alida and the Hummingbird tells a touching story of true love that inspires caring and compassion for all beings and builds bridges in times of conflict. Vivid images of flowers, colorful birds, and goddesses like Atabey will help the young performers tell the inspirational story. Don't miss this beautiful production with original music and script by Pamela Martinez and Patricia Cardona.

BMS's Musical Theater and Performance Program is designed to introduce children into the world of musical theater and performance through an 18-week intensive course that culminates in fully produced performances at the BMS Playhouse. The program is open to all children ages 6-13, who have the desire to share the stage with fellow child performers. Classes are taught by teachers with world-class backgrounds in musical theater, opera, dance, and drama. The program is defined by the philosophy that every child can find their creative voice on stage, combined with intensive training in the fundamentals of vocal performance and building a dramatic vocabulary that ties with their emotions and lived experiences. Comprehensive, friendly, and exciting, this is the perfect way to introduce kids to performance and theater!

The Brooklyn Music School views music and performance as the birthright of all people, an essential way that human beings connect with others and explore their creativity. The study of music has been demonstrated to enhance academic learning and helps to develop discipline and confidence that will serve children well throughout their lives. As part of the vision of reinventing the community music school for the 21st Century, BMS is dedicated to:

* Making high quality musical instruction approachable and affordable to a wide range of students,

* Creating frequent opportunities for performance for our students and cultural enrichment for our community,

* Representing a wide range of musical traditions, including European, African, Middle Eastern, and American to represent the diversity of Brooklyn's musical talent, and
