Local Brisbane Children to Appear in STRICTLY BALLROOM at QPAC

By:

With just six weeks to go until Baz Luhrmann's smash hit STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL dances into the Lyric Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from 9 September 2015, the company is set to welcome some new cast members including eight local Queensland children.

Director Baz Luhrmann has announced that the search to find the perfect children to play the roles of 'Kylie Hastings' (Scott Hastings' little sister) and 'Luke' in Brisbane, has resulted in four pairs of talented Queensland children being selected. They will alternate roles at various performances throughout the QPAC season.

To play Kylie Hastings Baz Luhrmann has chosen Hermione Denning aged 9 from Sailsbury, Alice Lowther aged 10 from Cashmere, Zoe Davidson-Wall aged 11 from Newmarket and Chloe Guy aged 9 from West End. The role of Luke will be played by Bailey Kelleher aged 11 from Tingalpa, James Portas from Carindale and Damon Poletto from North Lakes both aged 10 and Sebastian Witt aged 9 from Woodypoint.

Cast changes for the Brisbane season also includes some new ensemble members along with Brisbane born, Darren Gilshenan who has stepped into the role of Doug Hastings (Scott Hastings' father). The Helpmann Award winner for Best Actor in The Servant of Two Masters has a strong resume including ten years with Bell Shakespeare and three years on television series Full Frontal.

STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL is a new theatrical production, brought to the stage by the original creative team behind the classic 1992 film, including director and co-writer Baz Luhrmann, set and costume designer Catherine Martin, choreographer John "Cha Cha" O'Connell and co-writer Craig Pearce.

STRICTLY BALLROOM THE MUSICAL, is the inspiring story of a championship ballroom dancer who defies all the rules to follow his heart, featuring classic songs from the film including Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time as well as some wonderful new songs by artists such as Eddie Perfect and Sia.

This uplifting and courageous tale will tango, sashay and bogo pogo its way onto QPAC's Lyric Theatre Stage from 9 September 2015 for a strictly limited season.

Tickets are now on sale via qpac.com.au or call 136 246 with two more weeks of the QPAC season just released.
