Seven Devils Playwrights Conference Comes to McCall, 6/11-23

id Theater returns to McCall, Idaho for the 12th Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, June 11-23, sponsored by the Alpine Playhouse. Playwrights, actors and directors from around the country will travel to McCall and, working with local artists and students, develop ten new plays that will be presented to the public free of charge. Since 2001, the Conference has developed more than 100 new plays by some of the most exciting voices in American Theater.

Christian Youth Theater - North Idaho (CYT-North Idaho) is hosting a Mother-Daughter Princess Tea Party, today, May 5 from 2-4 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania St., Coeur d'Alene. The tea will include sandwiches, tea or hot cider, fruit, sweets and a pefrormance by 9 of every girl's favorite Princesses and Princes! There will be photo opportunities for all girls with the Princesses and Princes, door prizes, raffles, and other surprises. Tickets are $15 ea or a table of 8 for $100.

Morrison Center Adds Performance to WAR HORSE Run

The National Theatre's epic WAR HORSE, winner of five 2011 Tony® Awards including Best Play, will play Boise June 6-9, 2012. WAR HORSE is currently playing at New York's Lincoln Center Theater, in London's West End, and at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre in February 2012 for an open-ended run.
Opera Idaho Presents BALLAD OF BABY DOE, 4/13-15

Opera Idaho will present Douglas Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe, April 13 & 15, 2012. Based on the lives of actual historical figures Horace Tabor, Elizabeth "Baby" Doe Tabor, and Augusta Tabor, the opera tracks their lives from Horace and Baby Doe's meeting to the death of Horace. "Always Through the Changing" is a postscript ending foretelling Baby's death. It is Moore's most famous opera and one of the few American operas to be in the standard repertory. Especially famous are the title heroine's five arias: "Letter Aria," "Willow Song," "I Knew it Was Wrong", "Gold is a Fine Thing", and "Always Through the Changing." Horace Tabor's "Warm as the Autumn Light" is also frequently heard. Distinguished sopranos who have portrayed Baby Doe include Beverly Sills (Moore's favorite interpreter of the role), Karan Armstrong and Elizabeth Futral.

The Morrison Center announces a new 1,000 plus seating configuration that will provide university users, local arts groups and national promoters with a reduced seating capacity option. By masking off the theatre's balcony with a dedicated pipe and drape curtain system, in conjunction with modified lighting settings, the 2,037-seat venue is transformed into an intimate proscenium stage that can effectively seat between 900 and 1,300 patrons utilizing only the venue's orchestra level.
