Forum Theatre's 6th Season Continues with AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN

By:

Amazons and Their Men, by JorDan Harrison, and directed by Michael Dove and Elissa Goetschius, is the second show in Forum Theatre's sixth season and started rehearsals on January 17. Following Forum's ambitious Angels in America, which is nominated for eight Helen Hayes Awards, including "Outstanding Resident Play," this DC area premiere brings a blend of film and theater, art and war to Silver Spring.

Famous (and infamous) for glamorizing a fascist regime in her propaganda films, a young director seeks artistic vindication. In her latest film, she creates a fantasy world of drama and beauty-casting herself in the role of an Amazon Queen, tormented by love for the war-hero, Achilles. But in the real world, another war is brewing. Set in Third Reich Germany and based loosely on the life of Leni Riefenstahl (director of Triumph of the Will), Amazons And Their Men chronicles the creation of Art-and the collapse of a society.

With Amazons, Forum Theatre explores the thin line between the world in front of the camera and the world beyond it-and what happens when the line vanishes.

Does art bury the truth or expose it? Does it bind us together or tear us apart? And as artists, are we responsible only to our work or are we responsible for one another? In times of political and economic turmoil, both past and present, film might seem superfluous or theater might seem extravagant. But Amazons suggests that artists are more important than ever-and that the process of creation is both empowering and perilous.

Featuring Daniel Eichner (Angels in America), Laura C. Harris (26 Miles), Jay Saunders (Full Circle), and Jjana Valentiner (Kid Simple).

The Amazons creative team includes set and props designer Tobias Harding, lighting designer Andrew Griffin, and costume designer Melanie Clark.

Amazons and Their Men runs February 25 to March 20 at Round House Silver Spring. Tickets are $25 for all performances ($20 for seniors, groups, and Round House subscribers; $15 for students and patrons under 30). To purchase, visit www.forumtheatredc.org or call the Round House box office at 240-644-1100.

There will be two Pay-What-You-Can Previews Thursday, February 25 and Friday, February 26. Press night will be on Saturday, February 27. Please email Emily@forumtheatredc.org to RSVP.
