Drama Learning Center's TYA to Stage Area Premiere of CRY-BABY THE MUSICAL

By:

TYA, the Professional Training Program in residence at Drama Learning Center will present the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area premiere of Cry-Baby the Musical this June in Columbia, Maryland.

The casting process will begin on February 21 with auditions for entry into the company to last until March 2.

TYA Professional Training Program has a long history of producing area premieres-- the most recent contribution being this month's Hands on a Hardbody, which closed on January 21st. Other recent area premieres produced include First Date, Carrie the Musical, Chost, and Legally Blonde. Available by audition only, TYA allows students to work in a professional theatre environment as they learn about all aspects of theatrical work.

Alums of the program have studied, or are currently studying, at such prestigious programs as: Catholic University of America, NYU Tisch, Marymount Manhattan, University of Maryland, Elon, James Madison University, Indiana University, Wagner College and others. The program is tuition-based with limited scholarship/tuition assistance available to candidates who qualify.

The production will be directed by Drama Learning Center Artistic Director Stephanie Lynn Williams and Resident Music Director Tiffany Underwood Holmes. Based on the Universal Pictures film written and directed by John Waters, Cry-Baby has hometown roots as it chronicles a star-crossed romance between bad boy Cry-Baby Walker and good girl Allison in the 1954 Baltimore.

TYA Professional Training Program will simultaneously hold auditions for its Junior Company and Summer Musical Theatre Intensive production of Zombie Prom. Students grades 6-12 can find more audition information and schedule an appointment at dramalearningcenter.com/tya-teen-professionals/#Aud for consideration.

Cry-Baby the Musical will run at Drama Learning Center from June 9-17. It is produced by permission through special arrangement with MTI.
