MAPA and Tasmania's leading modern dance company, Tasdance are delighted to present the sensational double-bill Luminous Flux in Melbourne this May.

Investigating multiple interpretations of light, Luminous Flux blends striking and innovative modern dance with theatre, bringing together the works of two of Australia's shining examples of contemporary dance, Tanja Liedtke and Byron Perry.

An extraordinary talent whose life was tragically cut-short in 2007, Liedtke choreographed Enter Twilight for Tasdance in 2004 to examine the balance between opposites: light and dark, virtuous and evil. Tasdance presented Luminous Flux at Ten Days on the Island in 2013 to honour Liedtke's ongoing positive influence on dance in Australia.

Taking an alternative interpretation is award-winning Melbourne based choreographer Byron Perry's, Light Entertainment. Perry's work explores other connotations of 'light', flipping between dry and scientific, magic and mystical, and frivolous, playful and entertaining. Playing with the theatricality and multiplicity of meanings, Perry's work illuminates the astonishing physicality and talents of the Tasdance ensemble.

Luminous Flux is an excellent example of the company's commitment to producing new works by young Australian choreographers. One of only two regionally-based contemporary dance companies in Australia, Tasdance is a vital force in Tasmania and a valuable player in the national dance scene. The company provides an important professional development hub for dancers and choreographers, with a focus on both main-stage performances and an extensive range of community and education engagement programs.

Byron Perry is a performing artist based in Melbourne who has developed and performed roles with Chunky Move, Paul Selwyn Norton, Lucy Guerin, Ballet Lab, DV8 Physical Theatre, Force Majeure, Antony Hamilton Projects and KAGE Physical Theatre. Byron's work has been consistently recognised by the Australian Dance Awards and Greenroom Awards. In 2006 he received an Australian Dance Award for 'outstanding performance by a male dancer' and won 'Best Male Dancer' at the Greenroom Awards for his years' work. In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Harold Mitchell fellowship for professional development in direction and choreography.
