Melbourne Theatre Company's acclaimed production What Rhymes with Cars and Girls has hit the road, opening in Geelong tonight, Thursday 21 September, before travelling to Bendigo, Sydney and Brisbane.

Commissioned by MTC, What Rhymes with Cars and Girls weaves together the poetic songs from Tim Rogers' debut solo album, with words by award-winning playwright Aidan Fennessy.

The Victorian leg of the tour, with support from the Victoria Government through Creative Victoria, includes performances at Geelong Performing Arts Centre, and Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo.

This intimate musical gem will then tour to Riverside Theatres (Parramatta) on Wednesday 11 October, before heading north to Brisbane Powerhouse where it opens on Wednesday 25 October.

MTC Artistic Director Brett Sheehy AO said, 'What Rhymes with Cars and Girls is a uniquely Australian work, combining a contemporary love story inspired by an iconic Australian album with some of the country's most charming creative talents. The result is a production that captures the hearts of audiences in a way that few shows can.

'We are delighted to take this beautiful production on tour to Geelong and Bendigo - two great cultural hubs in regional Victoria - and further afield to interstate venues Riverside Parramatta and Brisbane Powerhouse so that many more people can experience its magic.'

What Rhymes with Cars and Girls had its world premiere at Melbourne Theatre Company in 2015. This tour sees the original cast and creative team reunite, led by director Clare Watson, with actors Johnny Carr and Sophie Ross joined on stage by a three-piece band featuring Musical Director Tim Rogers.
