New Manifest Theatre Company showcases new works in their first annual short play festival, Manifest Minifest. The event, directed by Simone Alexander and Elisa Regulski, runs at 8 pm on August 1-4 at The Motion Media Arts Center. There will be an ASL-interpreted show on August 3rd.
Manifest Minifest embodies New Manifest Theatre Company's mission to tell stories from a diversity of specific voices in contemporary theatre. The event consists of six 15-minute plays of varying styles and perspectives. "It has been a goal to foster a diverse collaborative ensemble, and this festival embodies that so purely," Artistic Director Simone Alexander said.
The first annual production highlights Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear. This one-woman show, starring playwright Deja Morgan, discusses the microaggressions women of color often face in the arts. Manifest Minifest is also premiering Stay Here by Mia King. This drama follows New York photographer Vincent and his traditional Chinese father.
Comedic moments are peppered throughout the evening with Greg Romero's gentrification satire Bulldozers, Sally Seitz' dark comedy Don't Send Flowers, and Tristan Young Mercado's timely political sketch Kitty-Cat Brigade. Manifest Minifest is also staging Kathleen Evelyn Brown's The Shore, a whimsical reimagining of Shakespeare's The Tempest.
New Manifest Theatre Company is proud to partner with Hedgehog Brewing. Audiences can enjoy free beverages before and after the show. Light snacks and refreshments will also be available for purchase.
Manifest Minifest plays at 8 pm on August 1-4 at The Motion Media Arts Center, 2200 Tillery St., Austin, TX 78723. There is an ASL-interpreted production at 8 pm on August 3rd. The show is 90 minutes long with no intermission. Tickets cost $10 per person and can be purchased at the door or online at newmanifest.org. New Manifest Theatre Company is a fiscal sponsorship project of Motion Media Arts Center and Fractured Atlas.
