Georgia Ensemble Presents I LOVED, I LOST, I ATE SPAGHETTI

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the North Fulton professional theatre company will produce the one-woman show, I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti  for their late Fall production at their home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Running October 25th through November 11th, 2018, the show stars Atlanta's own "Souper Jenny", Jenny Levison, and will be directed by Synchronicity Theatre Artistic Director Rachel May.
Annual Ghost Tours Return to the Fox Theatre

Atlanta's Fox Theatre transforms into a cauldron of spookiness as it opens its doors for the sixth annual Fox Theatre Ghost Tours this Halloween season. Brave guests will walk through the historic theatre to learn about the Fox's 89 years of ghostly sightings and unexplained events. For the first time, tour attendees will hear stories from Mr. and Mrs. Fox, who will be joined by other characters from the Fox's past, as they share details of the theatre's haunted history.
Orange Box Theater Announces Full Cast of PURLIE

Purlie played by Ronald Edwards is a newfangled preacher man extolling the gospel of freedom. Tanasha West partners with him in the lead as love struck Lutiebelle and the key to Purlie's plan to win back Big Bethel - the family's symbol of freedom. Crystalyn Monet joins the cast as Aunt Missy apprehensive yet committed to Purlie's ambitious plan. While, Terry Kiser embodies the realist Gitlow, 'Deputy of the Color People', Missy's husband and Purlie's brother. Brian Christopher Roberson arrived in Atlanta just in time to portray Charlie Cotchipee who openly challenges the racist ideas of the old south which drives his plantation owning, Jim Crow believing father, Ol' Cap'n Cotchipee played by Ian Scott, also a newcomer to metro Atlanta, crazy. DeEtta West, sister to Cleavon Little who won the Tony for his role as Purlie in 1970, rounds out the cast as discrete yet alert Idella Landy, Charlie's childhood nurse and a former slave.

DeEtta West is featured in the role of Idella Landy in the production of Purlie, opening at the Orange Box Theater on September 29. DeEtta accepted the role as a personal tribute to her late brother, Cleavon Little, winner of the Tony Award in 1970 for his performance as Purlie in the hit show. Impulse Rep's 2018 season is a Battle of the Sexes, featuring Shakespeare's lusty comedy, The Taming of the Shrew. This tale about a headstrong and self-possessed woman who tests the man she weds to see if he is, indeed, the man for the job, runs in rep with Aristophanes' comedy, Lysistrata. Lysistrata is the long-suffering wife of an Athenian general fighting in a decades-long war. She finally gets fed up and enlists her fellow Athenian woman as well as the women of Sparta (their enemy) to end the war once and for all: by refusing sex to all the men until they come to a peace agreement.

The Center for Puppetry Arts invites families to take off on an adventure to the island of Neverland when the beloved fairy tale Peter Pan hits the stage, September 25 - October 28. Guests can join the Darling children on a number of adventures, including an encounter with mermaids, mischievous antics with the Lost Boys and a run in with Captain Hook and the crocodile. Performed in blacklight, the family-favorite show features vibrant sets, flying puppets and original music to bring the magic of the beloved fantasy story to life on stage.

Spivey Hall to Host Free Concert

Artistic Director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company are thrilled to present Christina Ham's Nina Simone: Four Women beginning this September. In its Atlanta debut, Nina Simone: Four Women, directed by Michele Shay, brings to life the four women from the play's namesake song, giving voice to "Aunt Sarah", "Sephronia", "Sweet Thing", and "Peaches". The day after the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, these four women find themselves in search of solace in the ruins of the church, where Nina is struggling to compose a song that can capture the pain and protest that resides in her heart. This play with music includes some of Nina Simone's most popular civil rights anthems such as "Mississippi Goddam," "Go Limp," and "Young, Gifted, and Black."

Marietta Theatre Company Opens Second Season With NUNSENSE

Following a successful inaugural season, Marietta Theatre Company is kicking off its second season with Nunsense, a comedic, over-the-top musical that tells the story of five of the 19 surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken: a one-time missionary order that ran a leper colony on an island south of France. Nunsense, set to run August 17 through September 1 at the Lyric Studio on the Square, is a hysterical comedy written and produced by Dan Goggin, who received the 1986 Outer Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Music.

Manchester Orchestra and The Front Bottoms kick off their 2018 tour with 'The Stuffing' - Manchester Orchestra's 9th annual Thanksgiving celebration - at Atlanta's Fox Theatre on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. The performance will feature Saves The Day, Kevin Devine, O'Brother, Mighty, and others to be announced soon. 'The Stuffing' takes over the Fox Theatre auditorium and Egyptian Ballroom, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and the first band hitting the Egyptian Ballroom stage at 5 p.m. A more detailed schedule will be released at a later date. Performances will occur in both the auditorium and Egyptian Ballroom throughout the event.

Ottawa Tonite says, "Playwright Trey Anthony's love letter written to those women in her family that had to leave their children behind has both a whimsical and a hard edge to it. This play is good - standing ovation good.  Sweet, touching and funny, ample in its raw emotion, How Black Mothers Say I Love You can't help but work its way into your heart."
