The City of Sandy Springs, in partnership with Art Sandy Springs, announces the inaugural art call for ArtSS in the Open, a public outdoor sculpture competition at City Springs. The Call invites local, regional, and national artists to make submissions for possible inclusion in an outdoor exhibit surrounding the City Green and City Springs.

"A desire to bring the arts closer to home inspired the formation of City Springs, and it has quickly developed into a creative commons where community theatre to nationally-known artists perform. It is exciting to bring the additional element of visual art to the stage with this rotating exhibition, also adding to a civic art collection throughout our city," said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

The theme for the inaugural competition is "Inspired. By nature." Nine sculptures will be prominently displayed around the City Green for the first annual exhibit. The City will purchase one or more sculptures from each annual competition to add to its growing public art collection. Sculptures purchased will be placed in permanent public locations around the city.

The public sculpture competition was created to bring art to the parks and public spaces throughout the city of Sandy Springs, as well as enhance the 14-acre City Springs campus, which opened in August 2018. City Springs is home to City Hall, a Performing Arts Center featuring a 1,070-seat performance theatre, as well as a Studio Theatre, a Conference Center, residential, retail, and a four-acre programmed City Green.

All submissions to the ArtSS in the Open competition should be made electronically through CaFE.org via their submission portal (http://www.callforentry.org). For more information about the contest, click on the Recreation - Public Art Program tab on the City's website (http://www.sandyspringsga.gov) or http://www.artsandysprings.org.
