West Fargo Summer Arts Intensive Presents NEWSIES SUMMER ARTS INTENSIVE will present the regional premiere of Disney's NEWSIES on July 27, 28, 30 & 31 at 7:30pm and at 2:30pm on July 29. All performances will be held at West Fargo Sheyenne High School. Inspired by the real-life events of the New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899, this energetic musical leaps off the page with exuberant song and dance.

NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged "newsies," who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what's right.

The production addresses age-old, but shockingly timely, themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices, and David-versus-Goliath struggles as the show's youth protagonists learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment. High-energy with non-stop thrills, the stage version introduces eight brand-new songs by Alan Menken while keeping many of the beloved songs from the original 1992 film, including "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," "King of New York" and "Santa Fe."

NEWSIES features a cast, crew, and orchestra of 50+ artists from high schools and colleges around the area under the direction of a local team of teachers and professionals lead by veteran director, Adam Pankow. Now in its eighth year, recent SUMMER ARTS INTENSIVE productions include SPAMALOT, RENT, HAIR, and last summer's production of GREASE.

Tickets are $16.00 for adults, $13.00 for seniors, and $10.00 for students and can be reserved beginning Monday, July 17th online at www.WestFargoTheatre.com. Phone reservations begin July 23rd by calling 701-499-3237 Monday-Friday from 1-4pm.
