The Emelin Theatre, a non-profit performing arts center in Mamaroneck, NY, today announced that Giuseppe Tornatore, director of Cinema Paradiso, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Academy Award-nominated Director John Sayles will screen their latest movies at the Emelin and answer questions from the audience.  Tornatore will screen The Unknown Woman on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:30 PM, and Sayles will screen Honeydripper on December 13 at 8:15 PM.

The screenings will be hosted by Marshall Fine, Chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle and head of the Emelin's Film Club, which screens films before their general release for one-time only viewings, and has featured guest speakers like actor Penelope Cruz and director Pedro Almodovar.  The two upcoming screenings, while not officially part of the Film Club, are part of the Emelin's commitment to expanding film programming at the Emelin.

Giuseppe Tornatore is an Italian filmmaker best known for his Academy Award-winning film Cinema Paradiso (1990).  In The Unknown Woman, Tornatore tells the story of Irena, a young woman with a checkered past from Ukraine living in the Italian city of Velarchi. Irena soon grows close to a wealthy couple and their daughter after getting a job as their house servant, but Irena's past will not fade quietly into the night.  Tornatore will discuss the film and take questions from the audience following its screening on December 5.

John Sayles is an American independent filmmaker best known for his Academy Award nominated screenplays for LoneStar (1996) and Passion Fish (1992). Set in rural Alabama in 1950 and starring Danny Glover as the owner of a failing blues bar nightclub, Honeydripper is a musical drama in which the audience will learn if it's lights out for the Honeydripper, or if it can be saved by rock n' roll. Honeydripper features an all-star cast including Charles S. Dutton, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Stacy Keach, Mary Steenburgen, Yaya DaCosta and Sean Patrick Thomas, as well as such notable musicians as Keb' Mo' and Dr. Mable John.  Sayles will discuss the film and take questions from the audience following the screening on December 13.

Tickets for each performance are $20. To order tickets please call (914) 698-0098, or for more information please visit www.emelin.org.
