Ah, Wilderness!, EuGene O'Neill's celebrated (and only) comedy, captures the trials of growing up in small-time America. The play is centered around the Miller family and their middle son Richard's coming of age. Richard is an idealistic high school senior who is determined to change the world. Unfortunately, he encounters his first hurdles when he has a quarrel with his girlfriend and picks up some lessons in love from an experienced chorus girl, raising eyebrows and tempers in turn-of-the-century New England. Tender and funny, Ah, Wilderness! was a hit on Broadway when it opened in 1931 and remains just as fresh today.
