TRUNK SONGS to Make Edinburgh Fringe Debut
Maddison Bulleyment and Jos Slovick star in the show, directed by Julia Gannon at Greenside.
Trunk Songs, a new musical travelogue with book, music and lyrics by Maria DiFabbio, premieres at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, August 7-15 at Greenside, Riddle's Court.
Blending original singer-songwriter Americana music with intimate storytelling, the show follows Emmy, a 30-something musician on a solo drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Appalachia, tracing charged memories, imagined futures, and conversations with her musician father. The piece explores the tensions between artistic ambition, partnership, and parenthood, asking: are some journeys meant to be taken alone?
Alongside Emmy's journey, Trunk Songs draws parallels with historical women who defied geographic and cultural boundaries, such as Alice Ramsey, the first woman to drive across the United States, and Nellie Bly, who circled the globe in under 80 days.
The production features London-based actors Maddison Bulleyment (The Witches, National Theatre; Anne Boleyn in Six the Musical, Original UK Tour Cast; Carolyn in The Bridges of Madison County, Menier Chocolate Factory) and actor-musician Jos Slovick (Once, Pitlochry Festival Theatre/West End; Opening Night, West End; Beautiful, UK Tour), alongside New York-based singer-songwriter Maria DiFabbio (BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop).
The production is directed by Julia Gannon (BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop; The Boston Conservatory) with dramaturgy by Emma McFarland (Columbia University).
Humorous and heartfelt, Trunk Songs invites audiences on a lyrical journey that explores the art of skipping town, and making music of your heart's desires.
