Stars of Tomorrow Concert on May 24th will Feature BMI Workshop Songs

Arts and Artists will present Stars of Tomorrow, the last Songbook concert of this season, on Tuesday, May 24th at 6:00PM at The Donnell Library Theater. 

The concert will feature the music and lyrics of some of the brightest students currently enrolled in the BMI Musical Theater Writers' Workshop. Karl Mansfield, Michael Scheman, Peter Morris, Mat Eisenstien, Gayla Morgan, Chris Widney, Rick Hip Flores, David Turner, Neil Bartram, Barbara Anselmi, Will Randall, Benjamin Morss, Bernie Anderson, Todd Yard, Carla Arnone, Jason Coll, Valerie Sciarra, D.D. Jackson, Carl Kissin, Ernie Lijoi, Madeline Stone, Kevin Laursen and Brian Lowdermilk are among those whose work will be performed by talents from the world of Broadway and cabaret.

According to the website, "More than three decades ago, BMI and the late Lehman Engel, dean of American musical theatre, joined forces to create a setting where new writers for the musical theatre could learn their craft. An innovative program at its inception, the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop continues to flourish and is considered to be the foremost training ground for new writing voices." 

Past composers and lyricists who have honed their craft at BMI include Edward Kleban (A Chorus Line), Maury Yeston (Titanic, Grand Hotel, Phantom, the Musical and Nine), Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, Hunchback of Notre Dame and Little Shop of Horrors), Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Gerard Allesandrini (the Forbidden Broadway series), Lynn Ahrens and Steven Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island, My Favorite Year), Michael John LaChiusa (Hello Again, Marie Christine and The Wild Party), Brian Crawley and Jeanine Tesori (Violet),  Carol Hall (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas),  Paul Scott Goodman (Bright Lights, Big City),  Andrew Lippa (John and Jen, The Wild Party), and  Douglas J. Cohen (No Way to Treat a Lady).

The concert will be hosted by Producer/Director, John Znidarsic.  Admission is free, and seating is on a first come-first serve basis. 

The Donnell Library Theater is located at 20 West 53rd Street
