Barry Smith's show-length monologue Jesus in Montana: Adventures in a Doomsday Cult will run at the Village Theatre (158 Bleeker Street at Thompson) as part of the New York International Fringe Festival from Saturday, August 13th to Sunday, August 28th.

Performed and written by Smith (who is an award-winning humorist), the show "tells the true story of his surreal journey into the depths of a bizarre religious cult and his desperate quest for God's truth, or something that seems close enough, in the early 1990s," according to production notes. "Smith, then a disillusioned dishwasher living in Aspen, believes his sophistication, wisdom and hallucinogenic drug use have helped him to overcome his Southern fundamentalist upbringing...until he discovers Jesus has returned and is living in Montana! Sensing that the Apocalypse is near, he asks, 'What's going on with the world?' and soon meets someone who quells his anxiety, telling him: 'Jesus has returned, want to go meet him?'

Incorporating home movies and photos, Smith takes the audience with him on his pilgrimage. Does he meet Jesus? Will Jesus like him? The answers are hilarious – and surprising." The show is billed as "not recommended for children or the spiritually faint of heart." Jesus in Montana: Adventures in a Doomsday Cult is directed and developed by Lynn Aliya, with music and sound design by Arman Christoff Boyles.

The show's performance schedule is: Saturday, August 13th at 5:45 PM, Friday, August 19th at 7 PM, Sunday, August 21st at 8:15 PM, Thursday, August 25th at 3 PM and Sunday, August 28th at 2:45 PM. Tickets, which are $15, are available by calling 212-279-4488 or 1-888-FringeNYC. For more information, visit www.fringeNYC.org or www.jesusinmontana.com.
