STAGE TUBE: NYC Ballet's Winter Season Features Hard-Working Dancers of the Corps de Ballet
NYC Ballet announces their winter program, with two programs paying tribute to NYCB Founder George Balanchine, including the return of Prodigal Son and Swan Lake, as well as a reprise of his tragic narrative work La Sonnambula.
Stravinsky x Five showcases a quintet of seasoned choreographers who have all employed the composer's dynamic rhythms to great effect. The program includes the NYC premiere of Justin Peck's Scherzo Fantastique, as well as The Cage, Jerome Robbins' feral depiction of natural selection within a community of female insects. Dovetailing the New Combinations program are world premieres from Pontus Lidberg and Justin Peck, presented alongside Peter Martins' Fearful Symmetries. Additional highlights include Peter Martins' grand staging of The Sleeping Beauty, Jerome Robbins' comedic ballet The Concert, and a Broadway-inspired program sure to delight theatregoers with an adaptation of Richard Rodgers' Carousel (A Dance). In the video below, the NY Times highlights the life and work of 24-year-old rising corps member, Claire Kretzschmar, who will dance in all seven performances and appear in five ballets, sometimes dancing in two roles in a night.
