The National Theatre of MatMadia presents The Coward: A Madcap Fairytale, part of the New York International Fringe Festival at The Theater at the 14th Street Y, 344 East 14th Street & 1st Avenue. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

The Coward, written by Maddy Campbell and directed by Matt Phillips, a farcical clown show about mental health. A sweet, yet cowardly castle maid named Willie is possessed by an insane monster who forces her to revel in blood, confetti and stupid jokes. Willie goes on a journey to fight gods and demons to resurrect the King that she herself killed.

The Coward is comprised of an ensemble of artists wearing many hats. The Playwright, Maddy Campbell plays the lead role of Willie/ The Monster. Matt Phillips, the director, plays the insane Demon Queen Gregory. Wester Cooley (Cirque du Soleil, Resident Makeup Specialist for the US) acts as both Makeup Designer and The King. Abigail Wahl (Shakespeare in the Square, Resident Fight Director) choreographs the extensive violence.

The Coward will have its world premiere at FringeNYC after past development at IRT Theater, WOW Cafe Theater and The Experimental Theatre Wing, NYU. For tickets, click here.
