Photo Coverage: Tommy Tune Brings STEPS IN TIME to Town Hall
On Saturday, June 1Tony Award-winner Tommy Tune took the stage at The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street) to offer "Steps in Time" - A Broadway Biography in Song & Dance, highlighting his nearly 50-year career as an actor, dancer, singer, theatre director, producer, and choreographer. Backed up by the multi-talented Manhattan Rhythm Kings, in this special evening Tommy Tune siang, danced, and laughed his way through those glorious musical moments that made him a Theatre Legend, providing a unique and masterful evening that is sure to leave audiences standing, cheering, and dancing in the aisles.
In his illustrious career on The Great White Way, Tommy Tune has won 9 Tony Awards in four different categories, with Tony Awards for: Best Direction of a Musical for The Will Rogers Follies, Grand Hotel and Nine; Best Choreography of a Musical for The Will Rogers Follies, Grand Hotel, My One and Only and A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine; Best Actor in a Musical for My One and Only; and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Seesaw. He is also the recipient of the National Medal of the Arts.
First opened to the public on January 12, 1921, in its 92 years The Town Hall has hosted many of our most celebrated artistic, political and public figures, including, German composer Richard Strauss (who performed there in February, 1921 just weeks after it opened), Eleanor Roosevelt (who spoke and appeared on numerous occasions), renowned singer Marian Anderson (who made her New York debut at The Town Hall in 1924), jazz musicians Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker (who played together at a concert in June, 1945), as well as contemporaries Woody Allen, John Grisham, Hillary Rodham Clinton,Billy Joel, Liza Minnelli, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston (who performed for the very first time at age 14 at The Town Hall) and President Barack Obama.
