PINK, A Cabaret, Comes to The Pheasantry

Lyricist and actor Rory Sherman makes his London cabaret debut joined by West End stars including Lauren Samuels, Dev Joshi and accompanied by Ellie Verkerk.

After five years offstage Rory Sherman returns in Pink- A Cabaret. Making his London cabaret debut, Rory explores identity, purpose, the contrasts of growing up in The North West and New Zealand and the ups and downs of charity work. Joining Rory from his first album Ms. A Song Cycle is Lauren Samuels (Romantics Anonymous, Bend it like Beckham), Dev Joshi (King Cowboy Rufus Rules The Universe) and accompanied by musical director Ellie Verkerk on piano.

Rory says, "As a child pink was my favourite colour. It's is now blue. Did I change it because of social pressure to fit in, because my taste changed or because it makes my eyes stand out. Pink is about questioning the things we do and like.

It's been my approach to dealing with the overwhelming city after what was relatively quiet life in New Zealand; if you ignore the earthquakes and murder enquiries.

I'll be sharing the most embarrassing stories about myself whilst singing songs from my idols and friends I've made over the last few years. It's all Hobbits, misplaced nudes and exe-bashing but it wouldn't be fun if it was about all the good things in my life, now would it?"

Rory trained at NASDA (National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts) in Christchurch, New Zealand. His acting credits include The Hobbit films, Contract Killers. After moving to London he worked as a producer alongside many new musical theatre writers including Kerrigan & Lowdermilk and Stewart Matthew Price.

In 2016 Rory conceived and wrote lyrics for Ms. A Song Cycle, inspired by women living with Multiple Sclerosis. The album, in aid of the MS Society UK, showcases 14 different composers from around the world; Amy Bowie, Paul Boyd, Tamar Broadbent, Brian Lowdermilk, George Maguire, Eamonn O'Dwyer, Gianni Onori, Robert J. Sherman, Luke Di Somma, George Stiles, Sarah Travis, Verity Quade, Erin Murray Quinlan and Robbie White; with musical supervision by Ellie Verkerk, and features 14 West End leading ladies.

Each song tells the story of a different woman affected by MS from mothers, daughters, wives, carers and sufferers. MS affects over 100,000 people in the UK alone - 14 people are diagnosed with the disease everyday.

Lauren Samuels was previously a contestant on BBC1's Over the Rainbow. Her theatre credits include La Ronde (Bunker Theatre), Vanities: The Musical (Trafalgar Studios), The Buskers Opera (Park Theatre), Bend It Like Beckham (Phoenix Theatre), Love Story (Octagon Theatre Bolton), Water Babies, Peter Pan A Musical! (Curve), We Will Rock You (Dominion Theatre, UK tour), Vampirette (Opera House Manchester), Children of Eden (Prince of Wales Theatre), The Last 5 Years (Tabard Theatre) and Grease (Piccadilly Theatre).
