For her first solo exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, multi-media performance artist Martha Rosler will present her work Garage Sale, a large-scale version of the classic American garage sale, in which second-hand goods are organized, displayed, and sold by the artist, in The Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium, from today, November 17 through 30, 2012.

The general public is invited to donate items—clothes, books, records, toys, costume jewelry, art works, and mementos—for inclusion in the installation on selected weekends beginning in May (schedule below). The collection locations will be at MoMA and at MoMA PS1.

During the last two weeks in November, Meta-Monumental Garage Salewill fill the vast space of MoMA's atrium with activity and turn it into a lively space for exchange, not only for consumer goods, but also for real and fictive narratives. Rosler herself will perform by engaging with Museum visitors, who will be encouraged to browse the merchandise, identify with items, purchase them, and take them home.
