Josh Wood and John Cameron Mitchell are proud to invite you to a special one night only benefit reading of the new play by Pulitzer Prize winning author Tony Kushner, "Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy".
Writer-director-actor John Cameron Mitchell (Golden Globe nominee for "Hedwig & the Angry Inch") will portray the First Lady of the United States, Laura Welsh Bush. He is joined by Patricia Clarkson (Oscar nominee for "Pieces of April"), who is again typecast as an angel. Emmy winning actress Kristen Johnston ("Third Rock from the Sun") will play the Narrator and host the evening.
"Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy" was recently performed by the same cast to a sold-out audience at the Roundabout Theater Company's American Airlines Theater. The first scene of the play was featured on the cover of "The Nation" in March of 2003, was dissed on Page Six of the "New York Post", and has been performed at anti-war rallies all over the country.
There will be an after-party with music by DJ John Cameron Mitchell and a meet-and-greet with the cast at Luke & Leroy's directly following the reading. The party is located at ADDRESS and includes an open bar. All proceeds from the $15 door charge will also go to Downtown for Democracy.
All proceeds from this anti-war fundraiser will go to Downtown for Democracy, an arts oriented non-profit dedicated to donating directly to the campaigns of viable progressive candidates, to funding grass roots voter mobilization among key democratic constituencies such as blacks and Hispanics, and to organizing voter mobilization campaigns aimed at college students and young people in presidential swing states. More information can be found at www.downtownfordemocracy.org.
