Miranda & Iglehart Set For 'Freestyle Love Supreme' at Le Poisson Rouge, May 17

Tony Award Winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and MEMPHIS' James Monroe Iglehart are set to appear in a performance of 'Freestyle Love Supreme' on May 17 at Le Poisson Rouge.

Miranda and Iglehart will be joined by select members of PBS's 'Electric Company and The Beatards, a Brooklyn-based rap group.

'Freestyle Love Supreme' started at Wesleyan where Miranda and other members attended University. The show moved to NYC with its creators and began performing at underground theatres and at improv shows.

"Freestyle Love Supreme' involves performers getting words from the audience and using them to inpire brand new improvised rap songs.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is the Tony Award-winning creator, composer-lyricist of Broadway's IN THE HEIGHTS who wrote the first incarnation of the show as a sophomore at Wesleyan College. Since its Broadway debut, IN THE HEIGHTS received four 2008 Tony Awards (including Best Score, Best Orchestrations, Best Choreography and Best Musical) and in 2009, Miranda was named as a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama with Quiara Alegria Hudes, the show's book writer. Lin-Manuel received the 2008 Tony Award for Best Score as well as a nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical.  Additionally, Miranda received a 2007 Theater World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance, and the 2007 Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Male Performance courtesy of Actor's Equity Foundation. Lin-Manuel also received the ASCAP Foundation's Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award and is a National Arts Club Medal of Honor recipient. Miranda is currently working on Universal Pictures' big screen adaptation of IN THE HEIGHTS where he will reprise his role as Usnavi. Ortega will direct. In addition, Miranda is collaborating with Tony award-winning composer Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) on the upcoming Broadway musical Bring It On.

James Monroe Iglehart made his Broadway debut in THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. Last summer Iglehart played the Lion in the City Center Encores! Summer Series production of THE WIZ. Iglehart can currently be seen on Broadway as Bobby in MEMPHIS.

'Freestyle Love Supreme' has first-come first-served seating beginning at 10:30pm. Le Poisson Rouge is located at 158 Bleecker St. Tickets are $20 and are available online Here.
