The Duplex Cabaret Theatre (61 Christopher Street) will present Marty Thomas of Broadway's Wicked in a one-night-only cabaret event, Songs I'm NOT Supposed to Sing!, on Monday, February 13, 2006, at 7:00 pm.

"Songs I'm NOT Supposed to Sing! is a fun-filled evening of terrific music that lightheartedly confronts the issues of stereotyping and conformity that performers with 'unexpectedly fabulous' voices face. Singing pop songs and show tunes, Thomas's exciting show faces this dilemma head-on as he shares his own experience of being told what material he should sing, what clothes he should wear and – in general – how he should live. Through music – specifically those songs and roles he's been told not to sing – he finds his own distinctive voice in defying convention and being true to himself," according to press notes.

The show will feature accompaniment by Rick Leonard, with Mollie Weaver and Shaun Barker as back-up singers.

Thomas is a Grammy-nominated recording artist who was a childhood Broadway star. He made his Broadway debut as Colin in The Secret Garden; while still performing in the show, he was named the 1992 Junior Vocalist champion on Ed McMahon's "Star Search," beating out a then unknown Britney Spears. Thomas made his return to the New York stage in the Broadway mega-hit Wicked. He was recently featured singing behind Billy Porter on the Sh-K-Boom release At the corner of Broadway + Soul as well as in Porter's autobiographical show at Joe's Pub.

Over the last three years, Thomas has been performing at a regular Monday night engagement at the Chelsea nightclub XL, performing his original music with a live band. He has also performed at Therapy's Wednesday Nights in Midtown, hosting their Cattle Call show for a year. His recent, self titled, solo CD release can be seen and heard at www.cdbaby.com/martythomas and more information can be obtained at his website, www.martythomas.com.

There will be a $20 cover and a two-drink minimum for the show. For tickets, please call 212-868-4444 or visit www.smarttix.com. (There are a limited number of seats available and phone reservations will not be available for this engagement).
