Martin Scorsese to Film Kenneth Branagh-Led MACBETH at WWII Airfield With Original Manchester Cast

By: May. 14, 2015

Kenneth Branagh recently confirmed that plans for a collaboration with Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese on a new film version of MACBETH are moving forward.

Now The Daily Mail writes that the director will film the project at an old World War II airfield at Leavesden, Hertfordshire, in order to capture the look and feel of the original stage production -- co-directed by Branagh and Rob Ashford -- for Manchester in 2013.

Branagh and Ashford are working to reunite most of the original company and will stage the play while Scorsese captures their work on film. No word yet on whether there will be an audience.

The project will mark the first time that legendary director Scorcese has adapted a Shakespearen work for the big screen. Branagh, who most recently helmed Disney's live action version of CINDERELLA, has directed movie versions of Shakespeare's HAMLET and HENRY V.

Branagh's new theatre company's inaugural season will launch this autumn at the West End's Garrick Theatre with THE WINTER'S TALE, starring Judi Dench.
