Kevin Dozier to Appear at Laurie Beechman, 10/5-26

By:

Singer Kevin Dozier will bring his acclaimed cabaret show "TAKE ME TO THE WORLD" to The Laurie Beechman Theatre at West Bank Café, 407 West 42nd Street, on Tuesday, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 7 PM.   The evening, directed by Lennie Watts, includes songs by Maltby and Shire, Jones and Schmidt, Irving Berlin, Jerry Herman, Lerner and Loewe, Stephen Sondheim, Noel Coward, Ervin Drake, Rusty Magee, Alex Rybeck and others.  Kevin debuted "Take Me to the World" at Feinstein's earlier this year to universal raves.  He returns in this extended engagement at the popular theatre-district restaurant and cabaret theatre named for Broadway's Laurie Beechman.   Kevin will be joined by Musical Director Alex Rybeck at the piano with Jered Egan on Bass and John Redsecker on drums.   The cover is $20 with $15 food/beverage minimum, with a full dinner menu available.  Reservations: (212) 695-6909

Kevin will also be appearing at The Mabel Mercer Foundation's 21st New York Cabaret Convention on October 9th at 6 PM at Lincoln Center's Rose Theatre on Broadway at 60th Street.

Kevin made his critically acclaimed NYC cabaret debut at Don't Tell Mama in June, 2008, followed by two successful runs at The Metropolitan Room (October 2008 and 2009) and Feinstein's in 2010.  He was a 2009 MAC Award nominee for "Best Male Debut Performance" and was named "Male Cabaret Performer of the Year" in the San Francisco Cabaret Competition.

In New York Kevin has performed at Feinstein's, The Metropolitan Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Laurie Beechman Theater, The National Arts Club, and, most recently, was a featured performer at The Mabel Mercer Foundation's 20th Annual Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center. He also performed in San Francisco for 10 years, headlining at The Plush Room, and performed at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center.  Kevin has performed with many acclaimed entertainers including Bobby McFerrin, Carmen McRae, Kim Kuzma, Terese Genecco, Barry Lloyd and Ida McBeth.  Kevin also worked professionally as a studio-singer for many years in Kansas City, MO.

Kevin's highly acclaimed debut album, "Love-Wise", (now available on iTunes) was included on many of 2009's Top Album lists including Talkin'Broadway.com's Top 10 Vocal Albums of 2009.  Produced and arranged by Christopher Marlowe, "Love-Wise" features love songs from the Great American Songbook by writers ranging from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Michel Legrand and Marilyn & Alan Bergman, to Tom Andersen and Ian Herman.

After seeing the debut engagement of "Take Me To the World" Rob Lester wrote in Cabaret Scenes: "High praise for his exquisite, pure high notes which remain the high point and mesmerize. (Did you hear that pin drop? Or was that your heart?)  Look for Kevin at the Laurie Beechman Theatre this autumn with, emotionally/musically, as many colors as the leaves.  And like autumn, increasingly cool."

Of Kevin's NYC cabaret debut in June, 2008, David Hurst of Cabaret Scenes wrote: "Dozier has a beautiful, lilting, lyric baritone that throbs with passion and intensity."
And David Finkle of Backstage said: "Kevin Dozier has a baritone fully stocked with feeling, especially as it lifts into higher-register reaches. Dozier is worth keeping on your radar for several reasons. There's the voice, of course, but how he deploys the voice is of particular interest."
