Kentwood Players Host Auditions For ANNIE 9/12-13

Kentwood Players announces auditions for the musical "Annie" based on the popular comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan, on Saturday, September 11 from 10am-1pm for children and 2-4pm for adults, and Sunday, September 12 from 6-9pm for everyone with callbacks held on Monday, September 13 at the Westchester Playhouse located at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester. Rehearsals begin on Wednesday, September 15. The production is directed by Susan Goldman Weisbarth and produced by Shirley Hatton. "Annie" will sing and dance its way onto the Westchester Playhouse stage November 5 to December 11, 2010 with performances on Friday and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm.

The director requests that auditioners prepare 32 bars of a song either from the show or from a traditional musical. Please bring your headshot, resume, and appointment calendar with you to the auditions. Advance appointments are not necessary. Those auditioning will be asked to read from provided script sides, and dancers will be asked to learn a short dance routine. If you have any questions, contact Shirley Hatton at scandc@aol.com.

The following is the cast breakdown:

· Daddy Warbucks: wealthy, warm-hearted, stiff collared businessman--40's to 50's -- baritone

· Annie: spunky, sharp and full of hope. A big belter -- one of the orphans --10-11 yrs. old -- mezzo-soprano. Must be comfortable with dogs. The character of Annie will have an understudy who will be given one performance based upon agreed upon date to be determined.

· Miss Hannigan: brazen, scheming and pessimistic. Cantankerous orphanage director -- 30's to 50's --mezzo-sop.

· Grace Farrell: attractive and elegant. Faithful assistant to Warbucks --late 20's to 30's -- soprano. Able to sing and move well.

· Rooster: dodgy and slick. Hannigan's no-good brother --20's to 30's -- baritone. Able to sing and dance well.

· Lily St. Regis: Pretty, bubbly and dim-witted. Rooster's floozy girlfriend --20's to early 30's -- soprano. Able to dance and sing well.

· Franklin D. Roosevelt: President of the United States -- 50's to 60's -- baritone.

· Orphans: (must all be strong singers with great stage presence and move well)
Molly -- littlest orphan --6 years old
Kate -- next to littlest -- 7 years old
Tessie -- cry-baby orphan -- 10 years old
Pepper -- toughest orphan -- 12 years old
July -- quietest orphan --13 years old
Duffy -- biggest orphan -- 13 years old

Ensemble: Members of the ensemble will be playing multiple roles taken from the following:
Bundles (laundry man), Apple Seller, Dog Catchers, Lt. Ward, Hooverville denizens,
Servants: Drake (Warbuck's butler), Ceceille and Annette (maids), Mrs. Greer (housekeeper), Mrs. Pugh (cook),
Star to be, NYC ensemble, Bert Healy, Boylan Sisters, Jimmy Johnson, and
Roosevelt Cabinet members: Frances Perkins, Cordell Hull, Harold Ickes, Henry Moganthau, Louis Howe, and Justice Brandeis
