Keen Company Benefit will Feature Stars and Audience Participation on May 23rd

Among those scheduled to participate in the benefit are Richard Kind (The Producers), brian d'Arcy James (Tony Award-nominee for Sweet Smell of Success), Matt Servitto (The Sopranos), Deborah Yates (Contact) Mandy Bruno (Guiding Light), and Obie Winner Deirdre O'Connell. In addition, volunteers from the audience will be invited onstage to read scenes with the actors who made them famous. The 8 PM performance will be preceded by a cocktail reception at 6:30 PM.
"We'll probably tell some theater horror stories too, to make sure audience volunteers are good and scared!" explained Keen Company artistic director Carl Forsman. "It's all about having a good time and celebrating the live event, and helping Keen Company continue our work of making plays that connect and inspire."
"The non-profit Keen Company," states the press release, "produces sincere plays, believing that theater is at its most powerful when texts and productions are generous in spirit and provoke identification. Inspired by the works of early 20th Century American playwrights, Keen Company demonstrates that an earnest intent can still be sophisticated. Unafraid of emotional candor, vulnerability, and optimism, Keen Company seeks to create a culture of artists, technicians, administrators and audiences who share a desire to invigorate the theater with productions that connect us through humor, heart and hope."
The Keen Company has produced twelve full-length plays in its five seasons. It has been honored with five Drama Desk Nominations, two transfers, an Obie, and in 2005 a Special Drama Desk Award "for moving and enlightening audiences with plays that build upon our theatrical heritage."
