The Hollywood Reporter reports exclusively that Josh Gad will star opposite Billy Crystal in a new comedy pilot from FX titled THE COMEDIANS.

The single-camera project will center on "a superstar veteran comedian (Crystal) who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comedian (Gad) for a late-night comedy sketch show. Gad's young and hip comic resents -- and rails against -- the pairing."

Seinfeld scribe Larry Charles will join Matt Nix (Burn Notice) and Ben Wexler (Community, Arrested Development) as writers and executive producers along with Crystal and Gad. Charles will also helm the pilot, which is based on a Swedish program of the same name.

Gad previously worked with Charles on his short-lived NBC sitcom 1600 Penn. He will soon be seen in the role of late comedian Sam Kinison in a Charles-directed biopic.

The actor will soon be seen in the role of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in JOBS opposite Ashton Kutcher. He was last seen on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, and before that, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

His film work includes The Internship, and the upcoming movies Frozen and Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here. Other credits include Thanks for Sharing, She Wants Me, the TV series Good Vibes, Gigi: Almost American, Woke Up Dead and Back to You, the films Love & Other Drugs, Crossing Over, The Rocker and more.
