Jason Robert Brown Swings Into Birdland, April 4

By: Mar. 20, 2006
Jason Robert Brown will swing into Birdland (315 W. 44th St.) on April 4th for a concert with his band The Caucasian Rhythm Kings.

Brown promises "some great guest singers, performing songs from the albums and the shows, and premiering a couple of new songs from my upcoming musicals." More information will soon be posted on Brown's recently launched website www.jasonrobertbrown.com.

The website features a biography, news page, weblog, page on theatrical productions, information on albums and performance schedule. Brown will post the first round of "Ask JRB Questions" later this week; check the front page of the website to find out where they're posted. He will also post a new blog entry on April 1st; it will feature some new songs.

With The Last Five Years, Brown won Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Lyrics. Brown received a 1999 Tony Award for his score to Parade, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theatre in December 1998, subsequently winning both the Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards for Best New Musical. Parade was also presented on a National Tour in 2000, which Brown conducted. Songs for a New World opened Off-Broadway at the WPA Theatre in the fall of 1995, and has since been seen in more than two hundred productions around the world. Brown provided the orchestrations and contributed songs to Urban Cowboy, as well as handling the arrangements and musical direction. "Wearing Someone Else's Clothes" is his recently-released solo CD, while his new musical 13 was recently workshopped with success in California.

Ticket information for the concert will soon be available at www.birdlandjazz.com.
