Howard Scott Gallery to Exhibit Toon Kuijpers' 'Still Life,' 3/1-4/7

By:

Howard Scott Gallery is pleased to announce the opening, on Thursday March 1st, of a solo exhibition of recently completed Still Life paintings of the Amsterdam-based artist, Toon Kuijpers after an absence of almost 10 years.

Kuijpers one of the original M-13 Gallery artists as the gallery was known in 1985, has been involved for many years in exploring a meaningful conjunction of representation and abstraction. His works -over the last several years in particular- are structured in a means to equal the flat, tabletop site of traditional still life painting. In admired chapters of work leading up to the paintings in this exhibition. Kuijpers, demonstrate that a realist may also be a modernist. His art reveals great skill and sensitivity to the concerns and techniques, which are customarily associated with realism.

Kuijpers Still Life paintings inspired from Dutch potteries through out the ages represent a penetrating moment in a timeless terrain, where past and present brushed up against each other. By using the “golden-section” and different light sources in his composition, we witness his search for the essence of the ultimate compositions by continually stimulating and setting the subject of still life under different levels of perception. Kuijpers is continuing a long tradition of Dutch painting in a contemporary context.

Toon Kuijpers works is in many private and public collections in the United States and Europe including IBM (NY), The Prudential Insurance Company of America (NY), Philips Research Eindhoven, Gemeente Museum, Den Haag, and the Netherlands Rijksmuseum Twenthe.

TOON KUIJPERS STILL LIFE: DUTCH HERITAGE will be exhibited 1 MARCH - 7 APRIL, 2012. OPENING RECEPTION FOR THE ARTIST is THURSDAY, 1ST MARCH, 6-8 P.M.
