According to The 5th Avenue Theatre website, on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 7PM, the new movie musical Hairspray will make its Northwest premiere at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.

Hairspray made its pre-Broadway debut at The 5th Avenue Theatre five years ago.  Now it returns to Seattle on the silver-screen in a community celebration to benefit The 5th Avenue Theatre, Enterprise Community Partners, and Cascade Land Conservancy.

"The Hairspray film premiere will celebrate Seattle with a big hair contest, a 60s dance lesson, all-you-can-eat popcorn, and special Hairspray door prizes. Don't miss this opportunity to be a member of the first audience to see this summer's most anticipated family film in the spectacular theater where the musical was born — and support three great community organizations at the same time," states the website.

Tickets to the event are $25 (includes reserved seating and popcorn) or $100 (includes reserved prime seats, a pre-movie reception in the Producer's Club Lounge from 6-7PM, and popcorn).  For more information visit www.5thavenue.orgHairspray opens nationwide July 20.

The film version of Hairspray is directed by Adam Shankman (Bringing Down the House) and produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron for their Zadan/Meron Productions, which previously executive produced the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning Best Picture Chicago.

The cast features John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma Von Tussle, Brittany Snow as Amber Von Tussle, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Elijah Kelley as Seaweed, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton and newcomer Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad, who helps to integrate a Baltimore dance show-and wins the heart of Link in the process.

Hairspray is originally based on the 1988 John Waters comedy. The new version of the film is based on New Line's hit Broadway adaptation of the film, which debuted in 2002, and went on to win eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book and Best Director.
