Award-winning classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform at the Bower Center for the Arts, on June 20th at 8PM. The concert program will be identical to his acclaimed March 27th recital at Weill RecitAl Hall at Carnegie Hall. Tickets are $20.00 at the Box Office, (540) 586-4235, and online at: www.bowercenter.org/peterfletcher . There will be a pre-concert reception at 7PM.

"The mark of a true artist is the ability to create art under pressure, in spite of unusual circumstances. Peter Fletcher is just that type of artist On March 27, at Carnegie Hall's Weill RecitAl Hall, Peter Fletcher was able to continue to display his incredible virtuosic dexterity in spite of having to play on two borrowed guitars after his instrument broke during the first half of his performance. With just a small delay, Mr. Fletcher continued without a hitch to delight audiences with not only his virtuosic acuity, but also the depth and variety of a repertoire that ranged from cerebral, complex Baroque melodies to transcribed Satie and Grieg selections." - http://www.stageandcinema.com/peterfletcherlive.html

This concert will feature selections from Fletcher's 2008 CD release on Towerhill Recordings, Peter Fletcher plays Music of the Baroque (TH72022), www.towerhill-recordings.com. Other repertoire will include the Lute Suite no. 1 in E minor of J. S. Bach; Fletcher's transcritions of Erik Satie and Edvard Grieg; Usher-Waltz, an intense work by Russian guitarist and composer Nikita Koshkin; Andrew York's Sunburst and music of Weiss and Reusner.

The concert will culminate with Carlo Domeniconi's Koyunbaba, an unusual and exciting piece written for guitar.

Peter Fletcher began guitar study at the age of seven under classical guitar instructor, John Sutherland. In December, 1983, he made his formal debut at the age of fifteen under the auspices of The Brasstown Concert Association in North Carolina. In 1990, the Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA) awarded Fletcher a prize at its National Level Competition. In 1995, he received the Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music under Nicholas Goluses, and was twice the recipient of an Eastman Graduate Award.

In demand as a performer in cultural venues throughout the country, Mr. Fletcher performs over 100 concerts every year. He made his New York Debut at Weill RecitAl Hall at Carnegie Hall in February 2007, and returned in 2008 and 2009. Peter Fletcher will return to Weill RecitAl Hall in March 2010.

His 2002 Centaur Records release, Federico Mompou: Guitar Works (Centaur Records CRC 2588), received critical acclaim. Fletcher had the privilege of meeting Mompou's widow, Carmen Bravo, at her home on the Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona, where Fletcher performed from his recording and discussed interpretation. On their meeting, Carmen Bravo states, "On that occasion, I heard him play the music of Federico Mompou and was able to observe in him a refined sensibility, much affinity for this music, plus a high technical level that justifies his excellent artistic trajectory." After the release, Peter Burwasser of Fanfare Magazine proclaimed: "Fletcher plays it all with a gracious virtuosity that makes for a very pleasing hour plus of unaffected musical poetry."

In September '05 Centaur Records released "Peter Fletcher plays Erik Satie" (CRC 2731), an all-Satie project featuring Fletcher's guitar transcriptions. States Steven Rings from The American Record Guide: "The works all sit very nicely on the guitar, and Fletcher's performances are taut and incisive, counteracting The Common tendency to play Satie's music like sleepy New Age."

His latest release, "Peter Fletcher Plays Baroque Music for Guitar" was released last October on the Towerhill Recordings label. Mr. Fletcher's next recording project for Centaur involves an all-Grieg album, for which he himself is writing the guitar transcriptions. Scheduled release date is Fall '09.
