Urinetown book writer and lyricist Greg Kotis has penned a new comedy, Eat the Taste, which will make its United States of America(n) premiere this fall at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street at 7th Avenue). Previews begin Monday, September 20 at 7 & 9pm. Tickets for the open-ended, Mondays-only run are $25/$20 for students, and can be purchased by calling Telecharge at 212-239-6200/www.telecharge.com or at the Barrow Street Theatre box office, noon--7pm daily (Mondays, noon--9pm). An official opening date is currently slated for Monday, October 4th.

The 65-minute spoof, directed by John Clancy, features a new song by Urinetown's Tony-winning duo (Kotis and Mark Hollmann). It is set in the future when members of the Bush Cabinet are seeking new jobs -- chief among those is Attorney General Ashcroft who wants to parlay his life story and singing career into an uplifting Broadway musical. The AG sends special agents to New York to convince the creators of Urinetown that they are the right team for his project because they are in-touch with the "hipper" crowd…and because Elton John is not available.

Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann, who play themselves, are joined by fellow cast mates Bill Coelius, Gibson Frazier, Paul Urcioli, and Eva van Dok. The artistic team is comprised of the  OBIE Award-winning team for the off-Broadway hit BUG (also playing at the Barrow Street Theatre): Lauren Helpern (scenic design and props), Tyler Micoleau (lighting design), Brian Ronan (sound design), Kim Gill (costume design), and David Brimmer (fight director).

Playwright Kotis's other plays include Jobey and Katherine and Pig Farm (in development). He is also a veteran of the Neo-Futurists and Cardiff Giant theatre companies. Director John Clancy is founding Artistic Director of The Present Company and The New York International Fringe Festival. Directing credits include Americana Absurdum, Horse Country, Cincinnati, and Fatboy, all recipients of the Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Eat the Taste is produced by Scott Morfee and Planetearth Partners, Inc.; Cris Buchner, General Manager.
