Gloucester Stage Company Appoints Brooke Smith As Managing Director

Gloucester Stage Company has announced the appointment of Brooke Smith as its new Managing Director, effective April 16, 2026, joining Producing Artistic Director Rebecca Bradshaw in leading the organization into its 47th season and beyond.

Smith brings a dynamic background in theatre operations, finance, and producing, with experience spanning Broadway, regional theatre, and entrepreneurial ventures. In her role, she will oversee the administrative and financial operations of the company while working in close partnership with Bradshaw to advance Gloucester Stage's artistic mission, expand its reach, and strengthen its organizational infrastructure.

"Brooke brings an extraordinary breadth of experience and a deeply collaborative spirit to Gloucester Stage," said Rebecca Bradshaw. "She understands how to build systems that support artists and audiences alike, and her leadership will be instrumental as we continue to grow our impact as a regional theatre rooted in the Gloucester community."

"Brooke brings to Gloucester Stage a wealth of managerial experience with theatres large and small across the country," states Board President, Grant Clark. "Her expertise and energy are already being felt as we continue to transform GSC for continued growth and success."

Smith most recently led operations for the professional, regional non-profit, Houston Broadway Theatre, shepherding in the regional premiere of American Psycho with a new script and score by Duncan Sheik and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Prior to that, she served in leadership roles with major Broadway organizations including ATG Entertainment and Nederlander Producing Company of America, where she managed historic Broadway theatres housing Tony Award winning productions with multimillion-dollar budgets and complex operational teams.

Smith's appointment comes as Gloucester Stage prepares for its 2026 season, a lineup of four productions exploring themes of connection, care, and what it means to support one another in a complex world. The season features a regional premiere of Sharyn Rothstein's Bad Books, Harold Pinter's Betrayal, the world premiere of Dalloway: First Love by Lindsay Joelle, and Moon Man Walk by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright James Ijames-a dynamic mix of new work and reimagined classics designed to engage audiences and spark conversation.

With new leadership in place, Gloucester Stage is poised to deepen its engagement with audiences across the North Shore and beyond, expand its visibility within the regional theatre landscape, and continue building on its legacy as a vital cultural anchor in the community.
