Garrett Sorenson to Sing 'Matteo' in the Met's ARABELLA Tomorrow; Roberto Sacca Is Ill

By:

Garrett Sorenson will sing the role of Matteo in tomorrow evening's performance (April 24, 2014) of Strauss's Arabella, replacing Roberto Saccà, who is ill.

Sorenson made his Met role debut as Matteo on April 16, when Saccà became ill and withdrew midway through the performance. Sorenson also sang the role in the April 19 performance, which was broadcast around the world over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network. The American tenor has sung 14 roles at the Met, including roles in three Strauss operas: Da-ud in Die Ägyptische Helena, Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos, and the Apparition in Die Frau ohne Schatten. His other roles with the company have included Alfred in Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus; Arturo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor; Cassio in Verdi's Otello; and Froh in Wagner's Das Rheingold.

Tomorrow evening's performance of Arabella, conducted by Philippe Auguin, also stars Erin Wall in the title role, Juliane Banse as Zdenka, Michael Volle as Mandryka, and Martin Winkler as Waldner.
