Fellowship For Performing Arts Announces 2018-19 Season

Fellowship for Performing Arts announced today its productions for late 2018 and early 2019, marking the company's fourth full season in New York. The season will be headlined by the return of FPA's signature production of C.S. Lewis' THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS and a revival of Robert Bolt's Tony Award-winning play, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, a Machiavellian political-religious drama ripped from today's headlines. All productions and a reading series will take place at The Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036). Tickets are on sale now at www.FPAtheatre.com.

Fellowship for Performing Arts will present the return of the acclaimed play and nationwide hit C.S. Lewis' THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS starring Brent Harris (The Lion King National Tour) as Screwtape and Tamala Bakkensen (Tales of Doomed Love) as Toadpipe. THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS is based on Lewis' classic novel and adapted for the stage by Jeffrey Fiske and McLean. A masterpiece of satire, the play has entertained and enlightened readers worldwide with its sly and ironic portrayal of human foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly-placed tempter in Lucifer's service.

Set in an eerily stylish office in Hell, Screwtape schemes meticulously with his novice demon nephew who has been put in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man on earth. Wildly comic, deadly serious and strikingly original this stage adaptation brings its morally inverted universe back to New York in a deliciously devilish production.

THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS will run December 12-30, 2018, before traveling to seven other cities across the country.

The season will continue with A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS by Robert Bolt. An imaginative drama, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS boils with court intrigue and reveals the grave risk of speaking truth to unpredictable power. Despite relentless political pressure, Sir Thomas More, Chancellor of England, refuses to recognize Henry VIII's divorce and the King's ascendancy as the Supreme Head of the new Church of England. Relevant and smart, this Tony-winning play and Oscar-winning film asks a simple question: At what price are you willing to pay to keep your convictions?

A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS stars Michael Countryman (M. Butterfly, Six Degrees of Separation, TV: The Path) as Sir Thomas More, with Carolyn McCormick (Equus, TV: Law and Order) as his wife, Alice. The cast also features Tony Award winner John Ahlin (Journey's End) and Olivier Award nominee Kevyn Morrow (Ragtime) as well as three-time Daytime Emmy nominee Trent Dawson, Drama Desk Award winner David McElwee (The Wayside Motor Inn), Todd Cerveris (South Pacific, TV: Homeland), Kim N. Wong (The Hard Problem, TV: The Deuce), Sean Dugan ( Next Fall, TV: Smash) and Harry Bouvy (Wicked National Tour).

A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS will be directed by Christa Scott-Reed (Shadowlands), with scenic design by Steven C. Kemp (Cabaret), costume design by Theresa Squire (High Fidelity), lighting design by Aaron Porter (Songbird) and original music and sound design by Tony Award nominee John Gromada (The Screwtape Letters, The Trip to Bountiful).

A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS will run January 12-February 24, 2019.

In December, FPA will also present its Imagine This!, a festival of free staged readings featuring plays under consideration for future development. Audiences will experience works early in the development process and have the chance to share thoughts and feedback.

Works in the series include THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, directed by Christa Scott Reed, Thursday, December 6 at 7 p.m.; WE WILL NOT BE SILENT, directed by Carolyn Cantor (Sell/Buy/Date) Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m.; and PARADISE LOST, directed by Michael Parva (Irena's Vow), Saturday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m.
