Farnsworth Art Museum Receives Grant

The Farnsworth Art Museum is pleased to announce that it has received a grant in honor of Chris Crosman, former director at the museum. The grant, from The Walton Family Foundation, is in the amount of $25,000 and will help support the Farnsworth's many upcoming programs and exhibitions.

Mr. Crosman, director of the Farnsworth from 1988 to 2005, commented, "I'm honored to be recognized by Alice B. Walton. She is unquestionably one of the most generous art patrons in the United States." Farnsworth Director Christopher J. Brownawell said, "We are grateful to Chris Crosman for his service and the many outstanding contributions he made to the Farnsworth during his seventeen-year tenure; and we are also grateful to The Walton Family Foundations for honoring Chris by helping the Farnsworth provide unique cultural resources to the people of Maine and the nation."

Among the upcoming exhibitions and programs that this $25,000 grant will help support is the 2013 exhibition American Treasures: The Best of the Farnsworth Collection which features a complete re-installation of every gallery in the museum, as well as the associated weekly talk and tours that will take place on Mondays throughout the summer beginning on July 1.

The Farnsworth Art Museum celebrates Maine's ongoing role in American art. It offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists, with 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 13,000 works in the collection. The Farnsworth has one of the largest public collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson, while its Wyeth Center features works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The National Register-listEd Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, a National Historic Landmark complete the museum complex.
